Grounding Yourself to Get Centered and Oriented to the Present
Grounding yourself helps you center and keep you oriented to what is going on in the present. It allows you to see more, and consider the next step or decision you are making. It can help you set boundaries on the continual inflow of material you have to sift through to process. When you become overwhelmed and confused, grounding helps you center and feel more fully present and aware. It is a simple yet powerful tool for mindfulness and well-being.
Spending time outdoors has diminished over the past decades due to jobs, transportation and focus on
leisure technology. With the speed of change, increasing intensity and transitions you have to handle in just one day, the simple act of grounding can help you feel more calm, centered and energized.
By grounding yourself, you become more aware of where you are so you can set boundaries on the continual inflow of material you have to sift through to process. When you become overwhelmed and confused, grounding helps you center and feel more fully present and aware. It is a simple yet powerful tool for mindfulness and well-being.
The research is in about the importance of grounding for physical and emotional health.
Physically, grounding reduces inflammation, pain and stress. Emotionally, grounding has a beneficial impact on decreasing the impact of addictive behavior, anxiety, grief and depression. In both cases, grounding helps to build a sense of greater safety and trust because you are more aware of your choices and possibilities.
The following 12 grounding activities and modalities will give you a simple, yet powerful menu to use in your life for how to ground yourself to center yourself and orient yourself to be more present.
1. Go outside: In a book entitled, Earthing by Dr. Sinatra, the need for spending time on the Earth with bare feet to energize the body-mind system is explored. The book speaks of the electromagnetic connection and relationship between your body and the planet itself. The earth’s surface is negatively charged and has an unlimited supply of “free” electrons.
If your body has lots of positively charged free radicals (creating inflammation), the Earth’s free electrons can help to neutralize them.
How To: a) Get out into a grassy section of the earth and take your shoes off. b) Walk barefoot on the beach. c) Lie down on the Earth and look up at the sky. d) Sit on rocks, e) or better yet, sit in a chair for 30 minutes with your bare feet resting on the ground. Read more about earthing here: Earthing: The Most Important Health Discovery Ever?
2. Diet: After a long day or week of many appointments, you might feel disoriented. Sit down
while you eat. Choose more whole and natural foods to energize and ground your energy. Eat root vegetables like potatoes, beets, carrots, onions, garlic, radishes, turnips, horseradish, Daikon radish, rutabaga, parsnips and kolrabi. Decrease sugar and caffeine.
3. Feed Your Earth Element: Earth Element on the Chinese Five Element and Meridian Wheel is about nurture, digestion and support. Eat the following foods to enrich this connection.a) Grains: Millet b) Vegetables: Sweet corn, all squash: (acorn, butternut, Hokkaido, Hubbard, spaghetti, pumpkin), shitake mushrooms, beets, carrots, onions, parsnips, rutabaga, collards, chard, artichoke, sweetpeas, and string beans c) Fruits: sweet apples, figs, cantaloupe, sweet orange, honeydew, tangelo, raisins, sweet grapes, papaya, dates, and tangerine d) Fish: salmon, tuna, swordfish, sturgeon e) Nuts: Almonds, pecans, walnuts, sesame seeds, and sunflower seeds.
4. Feed Your Earth Chakra: Eat red foods like root vegetables such as beets, rutabagas, garlic, ginger, turnips, potatoes, and parsnips. Eat red food like apples or pomegranates with the color of this chakra to feel connected to the energy of Earth Chakra. which in Ayurvedic Medicine is related to survival, stability and safety.
5. Aromatherapy: Earth Element focuses on smell and scents. Use the scents of Cedar, clove and Balsam Fir or your favorite scents to help you feel grounded and connected to the Earth.
6. Polarity Points: Work into the joints of the little toes and fingers with your opposite hand and pull from the base.
7. Get your hands, face or body into mud or clay. This will help you feel directly connected to
the Earth itself.
8. Dance, Drum or Sing: Dancing barefoot or drumming with your hands helps you to feed the energy circuits of your body-mind system. When you sing, you are treating yourself to a bath of personal sound frequency. Drumming energizes your Earth Element through joy, motion, rhythm, connection to your heart and the Earth.
9. Take a vacation from distractions: Make a space or time daily for centering and
nurturing yourself. This can be done through meditation, journaling,
walking in nature or gardening.
10. Express Gratitude: Keep a Gratitude Journal or make it a point to take inventory of that for
which you are grateful. Gratitude orients you to the present and to life-energizing support.
11. Breathe: The Buddhist Soft Belly Meditation helps to make space for you and your feelings.
Most of us breathe with only the upper third of our body. Breathing all the way down into the belly helps you to feel more embodied, and allows space for awareness, openness, compassion, and mercy for yourself in the
moment.
12. Take inventory of what needs nurture and support in your life: Get in touch through the Soft Belly Meditation with places in your life where you have felt continual fear, anxiety or felt like a victim.
Make time to listen to yourself and find someone safe with whom you can share where you will be listened to with respect and support.

Polarity Therapy: A Healing Discipline in Resonance Repatterning
We experience life in energy circuits. In Polarity Therapy, created by Dr. Randolph Stone, the energy vortexes of your body each have a positive, negative, and neutral pole much like an electrical current. He applied this knowledge in working with patients to treat injuries, pain, and decreased energy after studying the Chakra Energy System from Ayurveda in India.
We live in a dualistic world: feminine, masculine, right/left, top/bottom, front/back, passive/ assertive, inside/out, the importance of each pole creates a unit of energy flow. In this system, the front, right side, and the top of your body is correlated with the positive pole and the feminine. Your back, left side, and bottom of your body is associated with the masculine. The neutral pole is the center of the body, the spine, and that which harmonizes the masculine with the feminine.
The relationship of these poles creates charged currents that nourish and regulate the energy functions of your physical, emotional, and mental body. When an energy center associated with the endocrine system is out of balance, over or under-energized, tipped, or disrupted by unresolved shock, trauma, or loss, the exchange between these poles creates disrupted energy flow.
Disrupted Energy: Dr. Stone taught that where there is a pain in the body, it is an indication of disrupted or blocked energy. In order to address the issue, pressure or support is applied to that area to increase energy flow and smooth out the crystallization of energy blocked in that space. Energy imbalance in one particular polar area impacts the other poles and the energy circuit between them residing in both conscious and unconscious material. Through working with Polarity Therapy, somatic information can be accessed and transformed.
Disrupted Flow: This energy flow affects the circulation of energy much like the process of breathing. Imagine, for example, that you only had the ability to inhale, or only be able to exhale. Being stuck in either of these phase locks would limit your ability take in life or energy for nourishment to replenish yourself internally, or be able to move out into the world after releasing what was needed by letting go.
“The greatest mystery in the universe is man himself.” ~Dr. Randolf Stone
Fractal Awareness: Your hands, feet and face are fractals of your entire body. By massaging or working with smaller areas of your body, you can impact the larger systems of your body for increased energy flow, wellness, and well-being. You can use this practice directlyby listening to this Polarity Therapy recording download.
Resonance Repatterning® incorporates the principles of Polarity Therapy in a number of Chakra Repatternings, as well as using this beneficial discipline as a modality when needed in sessions. This is done by muscle-checking for the exact needed chakra and pole(s) to support and benefit from positive change. By working with this modality, greater harmony and balance is achieved emotionally, mentally, physically, and overall.

The Weaving of Universal Consciousness through Being and Doing
As a spiritual being of light, sound and energy having a human experience, you are part of the great tapestry weave of Universal Consciousness. Through consciousness you are experiencing the unique expression of the Universe itself within the One of the Great Universal Hologram. Your life energy, is based on your vertical connection to energetic flow through the Sushumna, or spinal cord, along with the flow of energy through the Ida and Pingala that run like a caduceus crossing and connecting each chakra center to the rest of this system: a balance of both receptive and assertive energies, absorbing and radiating, of being and doing.
“Consciousness is the ground of all Being.” ~Amit Goswami, PhD
According to Dr. Randolph Stone, the creator of Polarity Therapy based on the Chakra System, your life includes both an involutional/downward causation and evolutional/upward causation process that sustains health and wholeness.
Your involutional process is one that connects you to Source Energy and non-local consciousness, the light, sound and energy that you innately are.
Your evolutionary process is one of being creative for spiritual evolution through experience, emotion, relationship, lessons learned through your life, and service to the greater entangled web of connection. The greater flow of non-local consciousness, that connects your body-mind system to the greater energy flow that joins all of life. It is holographic and quantum, at the same time.
Being and Doing
Your life energy is based, like your breath, on an inward and outward flow of energy that creates a pulse like arterial circulation. These pulses create the possibility for meeting the needs of experiencing balance and harmony between relaxation and activity. When there is a disruption in the energy pulse in either direction, imbalance and the likelihood for dis-ease and pain escalates.
The ever-increasing complexity of life filled with schedule, timing, work and overload due to over stimulation through a number of venues including technology and pace of life can lead to Being Deprivation. When energy is disrupted in the outward expansion without release or relaxation, you are more likely to compensate with compulsive habits, addictions and actions in trying to discharge built-up energy due to the inability to return to the inward phase of the energy cycle for regeneration and renewal. When you are stuck in this kind of phase-lock, there is more a tendency to blame, and the need to be in control. This directly affects your ability to connect to others in a way that promotes bonding and trust. The physical response to this stuck pattern can lead to excessive nervousness, hyperactivity and insomnia.
On the other hand, when your energy is disrupted in the inward phase of energy pulsation, you are more likely to feel an amplified need to receive something from an outside source including food, substances and/or liquids. There can be a physical sense of exhaustion, and this can be coupled with depression. You feel more on the outside of life, and feel dis-empowered and victimized without feeling as though you can motivate yourself to take a next step. When there is a disruption in the outward pulsation, self-blame and feeling ungrounded arises with more of a need to attach to others to feel whole due to an inability to motivate or embody change within yourself.
Disruption of the energy pulsation cycle can be caused by a number of things including breathing polluted air, an accident, or any unresolved traumatic shock or experience that impact your health emotionally, physically, mentally and spiritually.
“It is not just do, do, do. It is not just be, be, be. It is do, be, do, be, do.”~Amit Goswami
Finding ways to create space and time in your day is vital. Dreaming, recharging, and gaining greater self-awareness and insight. Creating more coherent consciousness works with stepping beyond habitual patterns into new possibilities in your thinking, feelings, habits and actions through mindfulness. Positive change impacts your wellness, relationships and well-being. You are designed for success. You are designed for well-being.
Wholeness comes from within your body-mind system and radiates through the non-local network of consciousness that makes coherent change both a quantum and holographic opportunity in the world at large due to the nature of entanglement. For even a subtle change in thought, perception, response or action can have a significant effect. Allowing yourself to benefit from the harmonizing and balancing interaction of weaving both being and doing within your life consciously creates more integrity in your wellness and well-being!
