Using Stress to Transform Your Life

We all experience stress daily. Using stress to transform your life can shift the flow of thoughts that run through your mind. With intention and attention, you can use stress to benefit your experience of peace and well-being.

Major evnts related to concerning health diagnosis, losing a job, not getting a promotion, losing a loved one, a relationship breakup, or unexpected news or change that impacts your life can take a great deal of your energy and time to process.

Ongoing stressful thoughts can lead to greater anxiety, anger, worry, rumination, and fear. Cycling into these territories can be overwhelming when you do not feel that there is an end in sight. And this can disconnect you from your ability to see the big picture, problem-solve or to take action for your wellness and well-being.

Is Stress Moving Toward or Away from Life?

Distress tolerance is your ability to manage actual or perceived emotional distress. The aim and intention in these situations are to choose your response or reaction to this distress.

This begins with creating a conscious practice of asking yourself if your negative thought patterns move you away from life-enhancing patterns that allow you to face life or away from life through avoidance? And, do you want to change this pattern?

Examples of contrast might be the following:

  • Spending time with people who give you positive energy or those who bring you down
  • Forgiveness or feeding resentments within
  • Self-love through creating boundaries with your words and actions or avoiding living your values in action
  • Spending time in nature and appreciating beauty with gratitude or blaming yourself and others for what is happening
  • Admiring your positive qualities and those of others or comparing yourself to others

“When we are no longer able to change a situation~we are challenged to change ourselves.”~Viktor Frankl

Using Stress to Make Coherent Choices

Changing your inner self-talk and dialogue about what is happening starts with intention and attention. When negative thoughts about the past or future become invasive, it is a choice to either stay with the habitual negative thought, body and feeling pattern, or to become aware of their impact on how you are feeling and how this affects you.

“It’s not stress that kills us, it’s our reaction to it.”~ Hans Selye

Once you make it a habit to change the ongoing pattern of cycling negative thoughts, your body, and emotions will have the opportunity to shift. This conscious choice allows for new possibilities in your wellness and well-being, even if this is for a short time.

Using Stress to Build New Pathways

Creating new pathways takes practice. This means that both your intention and attention are needed. What if you could take control of your thoughts by using using these questions to your advantage? Here are two actiities that you can put easily in place.

  • Establish a daily routine of checking in with yourself. This can be done at the beginning of the day, and also be used throughout the day. Setting up specific times of the day to check in with yourself either by schedule or using sticky notes in prominent places you can tune into what your body and mind are processing at eny given time. This creates a conscious noticing of what is going on within. You can use this as a barometer during the day, and then get a reading on how your thoughts are influencing how your mood, energy and focus are responding to life.
  • When you find yourself cycling into worry, anxiety, fear or depression, take a few moments to get in touch with what is happening. A simple way to start the process is to ask yourself three questions. “What am I thinking right now?”“What am I feeling right now?” and “Do I want to continue with these thoughts?” Becoming the observer of your current state of being you are better able to navigate what comes next in your life with greater options.
  • Chinese Medicine speaks to the importance of keeping your energy flow in harmony and balance for your health and well-being. The suggestion is to pay attention to your emotions when they come up.but to also limit the effects of the negative state. By first working with the (3) questions, and then taking action with a mindfulness activity, you are able to use stress to change your life.

The opportunity to create a shift in perception with mindfulness activities such as a short meditation or breathing practic, journaling, yoga, Qigong, gratitude, looking out the window at a tree or flower, walking in nature, experiencing beauty and good nurture, listening to an inspirational talk, reading, or soothing music. These are “supplements for your body and mind”, and they can energize, reset and tonify your body-mind system.

No mud, no lotus.~Thich Nhat Hanh

Mindfulness practices allow you to tap into the energetics of awe, beauty, and pleasure that expand your awareness and diminish your stress. When you resonate with choosing what you will focus on you become the author of you own life and in the short term allows you to lower your stress while building new responses in your body-mind sytem over time.

Once you have answered these questions, chosen a mindful activity to change your internal landscape, your enhance your ability to access your conscious mind with a greater access to critical thinking, and decision-making. This allows you to consider a responsive action based on expanded and focused vision so you can then choose to focus your time and energy on the task at hand, brainstorming, problem-solving, setting boundaries, getting support and planning that will benefit your wellness and well-being.

Resonance Repatterning® Sessions are based on working with your ability to repattern your body-mind-spirit system. This means that the distress you experience on any level can be an opportunity for creating new possibilities in your life.

Working with the Origins of Pain

Working with the origins of pain takes on many paths. Physical issues are usually associated with pain. it is often defined as a discomfort. However, different forms of pain can change how you view and experience life. It can be embodied in your thoughts, feelings and beliefs about how this pain impacts your ability to meet life. It is also the discontent that creates suffering for the inability to return to the life you had before the trauma, accident or illness occurred.

In some cases, these negative perceptions and limitations expand into proliferation of pain into long- term suffering. The inability to acknowledge what is happening leads to difficulties in processing the need for change to adapt to the life you are presented in current challenges.

The Origins of Personal Pain

Suffering can also be traced to generational patterns. Recently, I read the book, Caste: The Origins of Our Discontents and saw the movie based on the story of the author’s journey in writing the book.. In an interview about the film, the actor who portrayed the author of the book Caste, was asked how she could dive into the grief and pain she worked with in her part, reponded that she carried the generational grief of her ancestors who suffered at the hands of slavery.

There are many stories of people who through acknowledging the truth of a challenging situtation they were experiencing, were then able to use that experience to catapult them into a greater sense of meaning in life. This process included honoring the truth, sharing that knowledge with compassion to others as an instrument of personal and community transformation.

As an example, In the film, Origin, the author experiences three major losses in her life within a 6-month time frame including her husband, her mother and closest friend who was her cousin. The places where you experience emotional pain from loss feels like a separation from love, support and connection, and this can proliferate long-term suffering that limits your access to life.

Too much or too little resistance affects how you approach life. Avoiding pain amplifies suffering by way of intensifying excess immobilized energy within your system. Although your system might perceive this protective mechanism as a way to survive, energetically this interrupts or diconnects you from the pathways toward acceptance, decision-making, and new possibilties. It creates a ripple effect that changes and de-energizes your body-mind-spirit system. Depression, anxiety, guilt and confusion decrease your ability to emerge from suffering without the energy and motivation to move towards what is life-enhancing.

The acceptance on the author’s part in the film came when she realized that she no longer had the words and encougagement from her loved ones who motivated her to write the book, Caste, so she would have to accept the truth to commit to encouraging and motivating herself.

With acceptance comes the ability to choose your response to a painful situation at hand. :Acceptance allows you to see what is happening with greater clarity, to see not only where you are in the picture, but the bigger picture as well. Acceptance offers you the option of considering all of the possible pathways through inner guidance. This, then allows you to consider what aligns you with what is most beneficial, energizing and life-enhancing in the given circumstances, and to choose a path with discernment, self-care, with compassion for yourself and others with your true values.

Looking beneath the history of one’s country is like learning that alcoholism or depression runs in one’s family or that suicide has occurred more often than might be usual or, with the advances of medical genetics, discovering that one has inherited the markers of BRCA mutation for breast cancer. You don’t ball up in the corner with guilt or shame at these discoveries. You don’t if you’re wise, forbid any mention of them. In fact you do the opposite. You educate yourself.”
~Isabel Wilkerson, Caste: The Origins of Our Discontents

The Origins of Collective Pain

The book and film address the origin of caste systems that regulate hierarchy and racisim across the planet, and addresses the material as both a place that separates us from ourselves and each other across the world. The research for her book led her to rely on the examples from history still existing in the world today. She sought out stories of people who rebelled against opression and shined a light on the truth of heirarchy and oppression from the past histories of slavery in the United States, the rise of Hitler and the Holocaust and the Caste System of India.. She studied researchers and leaders deemed the “lowest caste”who nevertheless stood up to advocate for freedom, social justice and human rights.

Caste is insidious and therefore powerful because it is not hatred, it is not necessarily personal. It is the worn grooves of comforting routines and unthinking expectations, patterns of a social order that have been in place for so long that it looks like the natural order of things.”~Isabel Wilkerson, Caste: The Origins of Our Discontents

Many people today still carry the burden of patterns from the past. According to Family Systems, 80% of our family material is unconscious. We see this when groups of people still live out historical separations whether this be religious, racial, social status, money or resource-based, gender, language, territory, age, etc.

The collective pain that continues to show up today shows up in war, the response to climate change, the pandemic and mass refugee and immigration issues. The victim-perpetrator cycle is the reflection of personal and global pain that have not yet been healed.

Each one of us has a story that includes pain. Where there has been loss, grief, fear, physical injury, abuse, trauma or unresolved hurt there is a message that needs to experience the truth. This happens with the acknowledgement of unmet life needs and meaning for you today from the injury that created separation from all of the parts of yourself, or blocked your connection to others whether it originated in your own life or those of your ancestors.

Using Origins of Pain to Create New Pathways

‘Everything can be taken from a man but one thing: the last of the human freedom~to choose one’s attitude in any given set of circumstances, to choose one’s own way.’ ~Viktor E.Frankl

It is a personal journey. Willingness is a factor that contributes to your thinking, feeling, and beliefs about what you are facing. Taking care of yourself is primary when you want to move in a new direction. This is based on a point of choice for the journey with checkpoints that remind you of your positive intentions based on new possibilities. Motivation follows as you experience greater awareness. This creates hope paired with any positive actions. as you choose your own way.

It is the kindred connection from a place of deep knowing that opens your spirit to the pain of another as they perceive it.~Isabel Wilkerson

Resonance Repatterning® works with personal and generational pain related to trauma stored within from your life as well as lifetimes of victim-perpetrator cycles. Sessions identify origins of pain in your unconscious material. Working with personal and generational patterns creates restoration of optimal life energy flow within your physical, emotional, mental and spirit parts.

This allows you to create a new vision for your own life with greater coherence, author-ship and life enhancing patterns to end the victim-perpetrator cycles. With freed energy available, this empowers your ability to live and communicate your truth in action. As a result, seeing and reclaiming more of your Self, you are better able to see others more fully with greater compassion and understanding. This empowers the possibility for postive personal and collective change in healing the origins of pain.

Man’s Search for Meaning: How it Relates to Resonance Repatterning

Man's Search for Meaning by Viktor E. FranklI was first introduced to Viktor Frankl’s work while training as a Resonance Repatterning practitioner through his book, Man’s Search for Meaning.  His life and this book’s contribution relate directly to the benefits and process of Resonance Repatterning.

Logotherapy and Man’s Search for Meaning offers an exceptional view of the human spirit’s potential put into action especially when met with challenging situations as your greatest quest for experiencing meaning in your life.

Viktor Frankl was a psychiatrist before being a prisoner during the Holocaust in Nazi concentration camps and separated from his family.

Although he would never see his family again, his ability to connect to the love he experienced for them, took this love deeply into his spiritual interior and applied the principles of freedom, responsibility, and orientation toward love to create meaning for his life. After he was freed from the concentration camp, he continued his work by creating Logotherapy helping many different people heal through changing their attitudes towards their life and challenging situations through finding meaning.

The following are some of the principles in searching for meaning. They are paired with how Resonance Repatterning would benefit your life with your search for meaning in this process.

Meaning

When we are no longer able to change a situation, we are challenged to change ourselves.~Viktor Frankl, Man’s Search for Meaning

He defined despair as suffering without meaning. Life and spirit purpose in any moment is related to the perspective you give your experience. Even in difficult situations, there is the opportunity to find a higher meaning or message that only through your life’s journey and experience can be culled from this trying situation.

Many times in Resonance Repatterning sessions, the process travels to this place through acknowledging that everything is used by the Universe for your personal growth. Realizing this truth, it allows you to change what it is you can in your life through positive actions. Updating your personal material from the past related to beliefs, and attitudinal patterns allows you to step more fully into the present so you are more able to take the next steps with your positive intentions for your life.

By doing so, you are connecting to authorship in creating your future through this inner alchemy., changing difficulties into new possibilities through your transformed perception for greater inner balance, harmony, wellness, and well-being.

Freedom

Within human circumstances are situations and events that create both positive and negative emotions. Frankl described the choice of response, no matter the content, as the greatest capacity of the human spirit.

Choosing to practice compassion for ourselves and others is not only an emotional practice, but, also one that creates greater longevity, stress reduction, and health.

As simple as how you sit at a red light, to as complex as a loss, grieving, health crisis, or the content of experiencing a disappointment, your ability to have access to choice in how you take care of yourself or treat others can make all the difference in how you feel, how your relationships fare, and how your body takes care of itself through thick and thin.

Resonance Repatterning sessions allow you to shift within through natural healing modalities and disciplines that build greater vitality and expanded vision for what is possible in your life. Within the context of the work is the opportunity to change your attitude about a situation while building perseverance and strength for meeting challenges in a more empowered way.

Everything can be taken from a man but one thing: the last of the human freedoms~to choose one’s attitude in any given set of circumstances, to choose one’s own way.~Viktor Frankl

Responsibility

The word responsibility literally means the ability to respond. Through this lens, it is possible to enter what we call the Point of Choice in Resonance Repatterning to move towards taking a stand to whatever conditions are or feel unchangeable in your life. Just knowing that you have a choice makes this practice of taking action or a pause, create greater space for your own need for love, compassion, joy, and feeling of empowerment. Your ability to respond rather than to react with knee-jerk habitual thoughts, expectations, words, and actions, truly leads to new growth and experiences in your life.

Between stimulus and response, there is a space. In that space is our power to choose our response. In our response lies our growth and our freedom..~Viktor Frankl

Orientation towards Love

Have you heard the saying, “Love is what holds the Universe together?” Frankl’s love for his wife in the concentration camp, he said, whether she was alive or had perished, was a connection to her and this love allowed him to call on the capacity of their bond to get through the worst experience in his life.

Whatever connects you to love whether that be a sunset, a picture, a puppy, a song, birds, a family member, or a beautiful memory, the power and strength of seeing the world through the eyes of love makes it possible to move through and beyond challenges and despair.

In Resonance Repatterning® sessions, the work encompasses building the inner capacitor of your heart for wellness and well-being which then builds a greater capacity for love in your relationships with other people, the planet, and all sentient beings.

Those who have ‘why’ to live, can bear with almost any “how.”~Viktor Frankl, Man’s Search for Meaning

There are thousands of Positive Action possibilities for repatterning sessions. An example is using an anchor image of this “Why?” as a great way to build your capacitor for yourself and your relationships. Picturing something that quickly connects you to love, or, working with a time you and the person you are in a relationship with had a loving or fond experience goes a long way to creating greater loving energy in your life.

Resonance Repatterning FAQ

Get your questions about Resonance Repatterning answered with this Resonance Repatterning FAQ, Frequently Asked Questions page.

    1.  How does a Resonance Repatterning® session work?
A session starts with an orientation to the process. This is done verbally and with an Orientation page that helps you understand this confidential healing process. Read more about How Changing Your Resonance Changes Your Life
    2. How does resonance muscle-checking work?
The Nervous System is connected to every muscle, tissue, organ, and gland of the body. Every muscle has a binary response: a strong/flexed or relaxed response. Your body is a map of your life’s experience. That means we can access conscious and unconscious material in a session. Muscle-checking is a way to tap into this information. The information recorded in the muscle-check is registering where your life energy is dedicated. At the beginning of a session, the client and the practitioner work together to create statements to focus on the session’s purpose. The entire session involves muscle-checking. At the beginning of a session, a client is resonating with their issues, and not resonating with their positive intentions. The purpose of your session is to identify limitations, blocks, and disruptions in your body-mind field that have kept you feeling stuck or felt like an obstacle in your life. In this system, pain is a block or interruption of energy. In a session, this is identified by the muscle-check through lack of resonance (or lack of life energy dedication) for your positive intentions. The terms ON and OFF are used to identify resonance. A strong/flexed response from the muscle is ON and a relaxed position of the muscle is OFF. Through the course of a session, your resonance changes. By the end of a session you are resonating with your positive intentions or ON for them through muscle-checking, and OFF for your issues.
    3. How does resonance muscle-checking access information in the body-mind field?
There are three kinds of muscle-checks in this system. The first is a general check which means that the information in the body-mind field is global. The second check is specific. This means there is a particular place or area in the field that needs support, a level where it manifests physically, emotionally, mentally, or on the spirit level (core essence of Self), and a particular time in your life that is reporting a block, obstacle, or issue. The third check is umbilical which is a muscle-check that is done at the belly button. When this check is done, the practitioner cups their hand over the belly button to check for core life energy. When this muscle-check is OFF it means that there is zero life energy or no toleration for the statement.
    4. How can Resonance Repatterning sessions work with issues from the past?
Information can be accessed at any place on the time-space continuum. That means that a session can work with pre-natal, generational, and even with RNA/DNA and vision.  Your Nervous System is connected to every muscle, tissue, and gland in the body. Your body is a map of your life’s experiences. A Resonance Repatterning session works because it is accessing information from both conscious and unconscious material through muscle-checking. Your body is designed for success and self-healing. Identifying places where energy has become less than optimal due to stress overload, pain, trauma, shock or abuse is an opportunity to shift material from the past. This is like taking the kink out of a garden hose that has very little flow so that you can experience greater life energy in the present for the positive intentions you bring to a session. Find out how a Resonance Repatterning session impacts your life.
    5. How does energy get unblocked in a session?
There are now hundreds of repatterning protocols. When a protocol is muscle-checked for the purpose of your session’s needs, it works with the coherent and non-coherent aspects of issues and intentions you bring to the session. This means that the practitioner is working with abundant resource lists from consciousness science to identify the underlying foundation of the work that is needed. Then statements are checked for resonance. The non-coherent statements are messengers that identify underlying material that has shaped your issues. The coherent statements build the bridge to greater awareness, resources, possibilities, and opportunities. Sessions also work with Earlier Experiences that have impacted your body-mind field function or created pain. Energy Constrictions help to work with the material in a loving and nurturing way to update your memory bank. Unlimited potential exists in every moment. By bringing greater awareness and healing to the impact of an event from the past, positive change happens. Everything is energy. A session is always working with frequency and energy which means that your process will work with energy modalities from sound, movement, breath, fragrance, color, light, and energetic contact. All of the modalities are natural. Sometimes a session works with family or organizational patterns related to generational issues. Read more about this topic here.
    6. What is Family Systems?
Family Systems is a process developed by Bert Hellinger. There are a number of repatterning sessions based on this work. Read more about Family Systems Here.
  1. Resonance Repatterning FAQ’s: Having a Session

  2. Resonance Muscle Checking

    1. How does an in-person session work with muscle-checking?
In a face-to-face session, the facilitator works with their left hand to muscle-check the direction of the session. The facilitator works with the left arm of the client to check for resonance. The muscle-check indicates a flexed or relaxed response.
    2. Resonance Repatterning Principles:https://resonancerepatterning.com/our-principles/
    3. How do Resonance Repatterning sessions work by telephone?
The practitioner uses applied kinesiology or muscle-checking to check for the direction of the session with their left hand. This is done with two fingers for the muscle-check. With their right hand, they muscle-check on behalf of the client with a two-finger muscle-check. The client is actively involved in creating and repeating statements. The client participates in the modality with the practitioner. If it is not possible for the client to actively participate in a modality, the practitioner proxies for the client. This works equally as well in teleconference group sessions on behalf of the group.
    4. What does proxy mean?
A proxy session is one where the practitioner stands in for the client. I have worked with human and animal clients who are unconscious, in a coma, pre-verbal or non-verbal for this purpose. Because at the energetic level everything is connected in the Unified Field, this works. I’ve worked with clients 6000 miles away with positive and sustainable positive results. This means a session can happen for infants and animals as well. I muscle-check the statements with my left hand and proxy for the client with my right hand. I also proxy all of the modalities. These sessions are written out or recorded so that you have access to the work through email or an mp3 link.
Resonance Repatterning FAQ: What Happens After a Session?
  1. What might I expect after a session?
After a session, you will experience shifts in your personal and relationship awareness. Your session you will gain insight, get resources, and next steps for your positive intentions. Your sense of well-being and wellness will update towards greater vitality and opportunity. The process updates your memory bank down to the cellular level so that you are resonating at the energy level with your positive intentions. Timing depends on the individual. Everything is natural in this process. Some clients report immediate change. Some report subtle changes in their perspective, decisions, and next steps over time. Others experience change within the period of their session and Positive Action.  Find out how  Resonance Repatterning sessions create positive change.
  2. What is Positive Action?
Upon the completion of your session, the facilitator muscle-checks for an action that might be needed to continue the benefits of your session. Sometimes there is a statement in the session that needs further action or support to shift. These are natural modalities or activities that will enhance the work you have done. Positive Actions are identified during the session and are also sent to you after the session via email with details regarding completing them. Read more about Positive Actions in Resonance Repatterning here.
  3. How many sessions do I need to see a change?
The number of sessions depends on the client’s needs. Some clients come in for one session while others continue to work to clear limiting beliefs, patterns, and obstacles in their path with the goal of creating more optimal life energy to manifest their positive intentions. We all have major transitions in our lives. When there has been a major loss, grief, tragedy, abuse, accident, divorce or health issue, sessions help you go beyond the pain and inner conflict so that you experience greater inner peace and choices in your life. In this case, clients working with this natural process experience nurture and support for their process over time. I have worked with clients for blocks of time over months and years. As a practitioner, I stay in touch with my clients after a session.
  4. What kind of support will I receive after the session?
Kimberly offers 10-minute follow-ups by phone, Skype, or email to help you with processing updates or answer questions about your sessions.
